Woodfired Porcelain Guinomi / Tea Cup

Wheel-thrown, wood fired cup made with porcelain clay. The glaze reacts favorably to the fly ash in the kiln atmosphere and as the process continues, it slowly accumulates adding eye-catching colors and textures onto the clay surface. The cup is molded to your hand and is perfect for a long night of sipping around campfire. Guinomi is a Japanese technical word for cup, but the feeling it elicits, at least in me, is that on a small cup typically for sake. Conversely, the size is more akin to teacups in China and the Chinese tea ceremony, making it perfect for multiple pours.
